Abdominal peritoneal mesothelioma Info

Mesothelioma of the peritoneum include benign tumors, malignant and cystic.

While peritoneal mesothelioma is the most common of them, it is very rare with an incidence of 1-2 cases per million persons. Only 10-20 percent of all mesotheliomas arise in the peritoneum. Peritoneal Malignant Mesothelioma occurs more often in adult males but also occurs rarely in children with equal frequency sex.

Malignant Mesothelioma occurs mainlylate in the fifth decade of life, the benign nature in the fourth decade, and the cystic type in the third decade. The non-malignant type is more common in women.

Cause
The link with asbestos exposure, pleural mesothelioma is well established is not clear for for peritoneal mesothelioma.

Symptoms and signs
-Abdominal pain that should not be limited to a specific area of the abdomen, but can migratory birds.
The abdomen and discomfort associatedoften with partial bowel obstruction
Ascites (fluid accumulation in the abdomen) may be present
Abdominal mass / swelling may be present

Diagnosis
CT scans often show tumor masses and ascites (fluid in abdomen)
Laparotomy and laparoscopy for multiple biopsies {the surgeon opens the abdomen surgically into the peritoneal look right and take samples}

The treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma
It is treated with combination therapy:
A.Peritoneal radioactive P32 of whole abdominal radiation followed commonly used
B. Chemotherapy: Combination chemotherapy with doxorubicin is a very important secondary component.
C. Surgery: The surgical treatment is mainly due to debulk (reducing the size of the tumor by cutting parts of the tumor) and done the treatment of intestinal obstruction.

Prognosis of peritoneal mesothelioma
The prognosis of peritoneal mesothelioma is dismal with median survival time of about 1 yearafter submission. Death usually results from progressive intestinal obstruction.
